We have developed solutions that enable us, and the customer, to transform and recycle virtually any waste stream into raw materials and energy. These solutions are being used in Finland every day supporting the circular economy ideology and ensuring that less than 1% of our waste ends up in landfills. Our decades of international project management experience ensure an on-time, in-budget and high-quality WOIMA Ecosystem delivery across the globe.
For over 20 years, our experts have worked alongside some of the most prominent industrial companies like Wärtsilä, ABB, Valmet, Andritz and Cargotec. Together we have built numerous infrastructure projects and solved power & utility challenges in developed and emerging countries alike. This fruitful cooperation has enhanced the quality of living and enabled economic growth across the globe.
During those years, we have met lots of different people and heard them tell the most touching stories. From all the wonderful cities we have visited, we remember best what we saw in Indonesia and how badly littered Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, was. We also wondered why that cordial and hospitable Arab man was throwing plastic boxes to the river.
Better quality of life
We have given a lot of thought to how to enhance the quality of life in emerging countries in a sustainable manner. Official aid organization and development funds are doing their best, but that is not enough. Individuals and private companies have to get involved. That is why we would really like to help the people in emerging countries to achieve more social equality and better quality of life.
Driving once again to a project site through the unpaved and littered streets of yet another developing metropolis, it hit us. There was clearly demand for a ‘people-size’ solution to tackle the waste problem. Something that would simultaneously mitigate the risks caused by waste, create jobs and ease the energy shortages, thus helping people to achieve significant improvements in the quality of their lives.
Waste, in all of its forms, whether municipal, commercial, institutional or industrial, is wreaking havoc in the developing world. Under-developed countries are ill-equipped to handle and collect their waste, not to mention landfilling it in a sustainable manner, which leads to environmental, social and health challenges. This is something we want to, and can, change.
The brightest minds
WOIMA Corporation, with its vision of decentralized waste management, will not only revolutionize the way waste is handled today, but it will radically and readily improve local quality of life and empower people by utilizing waste as a commodity instead of discarding it as refuse. We will combine the Finnish engineering know-how in waste management with power plant design expertise to produce results that will completely change the competitive landscape in waste management. Our location in Vaasa, Finland, a world-renowned energy cluster capital, grants us access to the brightest minds and most experienced professionals in energy-related project businesses.
We can also draw from the knowledge that we and our partners have gathered from hundreds of power plant and waste management projects. Not to mention the fact that Finland is the world leader in waste-to-energy and biomass-to-energy solutions. Combining the Finnish world-class education system, decades of relevant experience and an inquisitive mind is the winning formula.
Built to last
Our arctic location, long distances and sparsely populated land automatically mean that we are highly dependent on energy. Since we do not have significant natural resources, such as oil, we have had to develop new ways to produce energy. And we have done it with sisu. Electricity, heat and fuel production capabilities are our lifeline. Simultaneously, they are amongst our most sought-after export products. We are pioneering different types of waste-to-energy and waste-to-fuel solutions that reduce our dependence on imported fuels and energy. This is part of our commitment towards sustainable economic growth and way of life. Long lifecycles and low maintenance costs are key factors here. Therefore, ‘Made in Finland’ is synonymous to ‘built to last’ and customers can take it for granted that if a product works in Finland, it will work anywhere.
“If a product works in Finland, it will work anywhere.”
WOIMA Corporation’s first pledge in fighting poverty, pollution and social inequality is a containerized modular waste-to-energy power plant. Pre-assembled in Finland; it is easily delivered, quick to install, cost-efficient to run and simple to maintain. It will significantly reduce the need to transport waste, eliminate the need for landfills, support electrical micro grids and boost local small and medium-sized enterprising by offering electricity, thermal energy and potable water at a reasonable cost. Naturally, the power plant will offer local jobs and training opportunities.
Our journey is just beginning and the first projects are on the drawing board. Do you want to participate in solving the waste management challenges in emerging countries? Or do you have other thoughts on how to improve local conditions? Let’s stay in touch.
